The History of Brewery
Our company is located in Oita Ken Hita Shi, the basin in the central northern part of Kyushu that is also being called as “Small Kyoto of Kyushu Island”. In the Edo period, it was the major transportation hub of Kyushu, flourished as a territory under the direct connection of Japan’s feudal government, supervised by Saigokusujigundai (An administrator who governed the land that was under the direct control of Shogunate). Especially, a large number of structures in “Mameda Town” are well-preserved, which were constructed from the later years of Edo period to the early years of Showa period. The town was selected as Japan’s “Important traditional constructions preservation area” and being spotlighted as the best tourist attraction in the city. Moreover, thanks to the natural location of the town, being surrounded by the mountains has granted the region with the merit of the cleaner underground water resource and thus has supported the area’s brewing industry to flourish.
The brewery of Kunchou Brewing Corporation was inherited from “Chihara Family”, which was a prestige family in brewing industry in Hita. In 1932, under the administration the 4th son of brewing corporation in Fukuoka, Tomiyasu Yutaka, the brewing cooperation has started its brewing business as the Hita division of Tomiyasu Cooperation. The brewery that was built in the most prosperous period in the history of Hitaka is very valuable as a well-preserved construction. Until now, by using rich, high-quality water, we are doing our best in order to brew the best liquor. We will continue trying our best to serve every customer with the product in its best quality. We sincerely hope you will have a good time here.
